On September 19, 2007 we did another secchi disc test at three different spots on our lake. We did this at 4:15 in the afternoon. It was sunny out there with a little breeze . The water temperature was 73 degrees and the color was a light brown to a light green. In 13’ of water, the reading was 6 2/10’. In 23’ of water, the reading was 7’. In 29’ of water, the reading was 7’. These measurements are not bad at all but we all would like for them to be better.
On October 15, 2007 we did another secchi disc test. We did this at 2:40 in the afternoon and it was sunny out there with a little breeze. The water temperature was 64 degrees and the water color was light brown to a light green again. In 13’ of water, the reading 5 1/2’. In 23’ of water, the reading was 5 1/2. Ad you can see -- the readings were lower. Maybe this is due to more leaves, grass, algae and farm runoff from road 100 S. We will have another chemical test result soon.
The secchi disck is actually a weighted metal disc with black and white marking on it. It is suspended into the water until it can no longer be seen. The number comes from a special measuring tape attached to the disc and the roll up handle and the readings are in foot (‘) and tenths of a foot (/), The secchi disc is owned by our lake association.
